Gearing Your Character

Introduction to the types of gear you can equip on your character.

⚔️ Gearing Your Character

“Fine robes and fancy rings won’t save you from a troll’s club—but they might help you outlast it.”

Your choice of armor and accessories defines not just how you look, but how you survive. While weapons determine how you deal damage, your gear keeps you standing long enough to deliver it. Early adventurers should focus on finding equipment that grants elemental resistances (Fire, Cold, Poison, Electric, Acid, and Missile) and Regeneration—these bonuses drastically improve your longevity, especially in the early game.

🛡️ Armor Types

Armor comes in four main categories, each offering a balance between protection and weight. Any class can wear any type, but heavier armor increases encumbrance and reduces mobility.

Cloth

Wizard

Low defense, minimal encumbrance, ideal for casters

Leather

Thief

Balanced protection and agility

Adventurer

Warrior

Best protection, very heavy

You can equip a Helmet, Cowl, Chest, Bracers, Leg Armor, and Boots. Male characters also wear Robes, and female characters wear Skirts—these provide little protection but often carry valuable magical bonuses.

💡 Tip: NPC vendors sell basic armor, but it’s rarely worth the gold—these pieces offer minimal bonuses and are quickly outclassed by magical drops.

🧙 For placeholders, Troll Leather armor is a strong choice for Wizards and Thieves, while Mythril armor serves as a dependable option for Warriors and other melee fighters until better magical pieces are found.

💍 Accessories

Beyond armor, your accessories define your character’s flexibility and long-term potential.

  • Jewelry: You can equip two rings and one amulet. Rings and amulets begin dropping in early zones, though many will require identification via spell or scroll before use. Look for bonuses that suit your class— Many new characters will benefit from the Ring of Regeneration, Ring of Endurance, Ring of Intelligence, Amulet of Intelligence, Amulet of Endurance, or Amulet of Combat.
  • Baldrics: Though purely cosmetic in appearance, baldrics are invaluable for holding enchantments since they’re rarely replaced. You will earn baldrics as rewards for leveling, your first being awarded to you at level three.
  • Belts: Offer useful stat bonuses—especially carry capacity. The Belt of Strength is a reliable early-game drop that increases your Strength (and thus carry weight), which is valuable for any class.
  • Backpacks: Collected loot is automatically stored in an equipped backpack, allowing quick sales by dragging the pack to an NPC vendor. Magical variants like the Novices Knapsack can roll with enchantments such as Regeneration or Elemental Shields, making them highly sought after early on.

⚠️Caution - Selling the contents of your backpack to an NPC vendor will sell EVERYTHING in the backpack, including magical items. Selling your backpack to a vendor with no items inside will sell the backpack itself.

🛡️ Resistances and Regeneration

Before worrying about damage output, make sure you can survive what enemies throw at you. Elemental resistances—Fire, Cold, Poison, Electric, Acid, and Missile—reduce incoming damage from spells and weapons. Regeneration ensures your character heals a portion of their health and mana between rounds, keeping you in the fight longer without relying on potions or rest.

Prioritize finding at least some regeneration and resistance gear early on—it’s one of the most impactful upgrades you can make.
